Starting his career in the New Orleans field office of Arthur Andersen, Rex was immediately plugged into the tax division. Over a public sector career spanning three decades, Rex worked with clients in nearly every business industry, particularly enjoying work with those in banking, energy, and real estate sectors. After being recruited to join the Peat Marwick office in Corpus Christi, Rex was promoted to Senior Manager.
In the late eighties, Rex joined the Everest Companies as a Special Assistant to the President where he evaluated all aspects of the business and made recommendations for improvement. Eventually, he played a key role in divesting many of the mining plants at a significant gain and assisted the family with refocusing on their Texas operations.
When those projects were completed, Rex opened his own CPA office and realized how much he enjoyed working with other family owned businesses. Throughout the late nineties and early 2000′s, Rex also served on the Corpus Christi City Council. Joining Kinnison & Co. as a founder, Rex still manages all of the tax services and oversees a number of financial consulting projects each year.
As an Ole Miss alum, Rex still bleeds red and blue, making the pilgrimage back to Oxford, Mississippi, for football and basketball games as much as possible. (He’s particularly excited about their recent Cotton Bowl victories.) Rex is an active member of Bay Area Fellowship and is launching a community-based health program in Corpus Christi in 2010. He’s very proud of his five children: Liz (residing in Jackson, Mississippi), Michael (serving as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corp), Jennifer (attending Texas State University), and the two still at home, Samantha and Mariah.
