We’re different – and we think that’s a good thing.
While we are licensed CPA’s, and Kinnison & Co. is a registered CPA firm, we don’t offer much of what you would find at a typical CPA practice. In fact, we partner with other CPA firms all the time.
Enough about what we don’t do. What we do is give businesses the tools they need to succeed. And most of our projects are customized to serve a particular client’s needs, but we can give you a few examples.
Many of our clients are successful businesses that are having growing pains. The business hummed right along with just a few employees, but there have been more hiccups lately. Or, employee turnover is causing all sorts of interruptions. Or, the business owner is happy with the financial results, but wants his life back. In those cases, our services could include:
- Assistance in identifying and implementing systems to monitor key performance indicators;
- Assistance in developing and utilizing a budgeting and/or purchase order process;
- Design and implementation of enterprise systems (such as QuickBooks Enterprise, Great Plains, MAS, or others) and other technology tools;
- Assistance with documentation and/or implementation of organization policies and processes, including org charts and job descriptions;
- Training employees on following organizational processes and the use of technology tools;
- Assistance with identifying and developing leaders within a company; or
- Facilitation of strategic planning retreats or other company meetings.
Other clients want to grow more rapidly by buying another business or adding a new geographic location. In these projects, we assume the role of project manager, putting our experience with multiple business mergers and acquisitions to use. Some of services in this arena could include:
- Assistance with engaging a real estate professional to select and secure a physical location;
- Assistance with engaging attorneys and other specialists (from all over the world, if necessary) to ensure that a transaction is structured in the most favorable manner;
- Assistance with projecting the impact of the growth or acquisition on the existing business;
- Preparing a business plan or Confidential Information Memorandum to secure bank financing or other funding;
- Evaluating acquisition employees and preparing a transition plan; or
- Integrating multiple enterprise systems and operational processes, and training employees.
Several of our clients engage us monthly to provide what we call Outsourced Controllership services. With these businesses, we assume the role of a mentor and advisor providing services such as:
- Assistance with identifying and implementing systems to monitor key business indicators;
- Assistance in evaluating expense or income areas in relation to budgets or goals;
- Assistance with developing a plan to grow leaders within the business or recruit key positions;
- Assistance with evaluating and updating processes to improve efficiency and internal controls; or
- Assistance with evaluating key business decisions such as major asset purchases or insurance coverages.
For select clients, we also provide business and personal tax preparation and IRS representation services.
